Search on for lead New Street consultant

Network Rail has launched its search for a lead consultant for the £600m Birmingham New Street Gateway project and is currently evaluating responses. The preferred company would lead work across the station enhancement, overseeing architecture, engineering, design, landscaping, and environmental aspects of the work.

The Birmingham Gateway project is essential to Birmingham, its continued prosperity and the wider economic success of the West Midlands. The project will address the immediate and long-term rail capacity challenges for Birmingham and is therefore of major national strategic importance.

Martin Chambers, programme director for Birmingham New Street, commented

“We are looking for the best in industry to help us transform Birmingham New Street. The new station will create a world-class passenger experience, improving the flow to and from train services, increasing passenger capacity, and creating a more pleasant environment. The challenge is clear, and we are looking for a lead consultant to help us deliver this exciting project.”

Network Rail will also be looking for an external envelope concept designer; cost consultant; and construction partner later this year. Companies with an interest in tendering for this work may find it useful to refer to the pre-qualification questionnaire Network Rail issued to lead design consultants. This can be found at:
