The New Street project is an essential part of the Birmingham City Centre Masterplan, contributing to the drive for more business opportunities, increased tourism and the city’s image as a whole.
The overall benefits will be over £1.7 billion.
A rejuvenated New Street is the most efficient response to rising passenger numbers. In contrast, a new station outside the city would repesent unnecessary duplication – at a high cost to taxpayers.
The development will include the use of locally sourced materials from sustainable sources wherever possible and the promotion of green travel plans and recycling schemes.
